Carbide and Diamond Tools


SME offer a full range of high-quality carbide tools and diamond tools for every application: milling, engraving, chamfering, cutting, machining of threads. With over 1,000 different cutting edge geometries, there is hardly any machining task left, for which there is no suitable tool available.

Diamond is even much harder than carbide. Diamond tools – at vhf these tools consist of a carbide shank with diamond attachment – provide you with a multiple of the endurance. A further great advantage of diamond tools is the fact, that they are suitable for dry processing and furthermore, regrindable for several times.

For processing wood, plastic and non-ferrous metals we recommend polycrystalline diamond (PCD) as cutting material. CVD diamond thick film plates are used for milling very hard materials such as GRP-/CFRP materials or hard non-ferrous metals. Tools with monocrystalline diamonds (MCD) as well as tools with polycrystalline diamonds (PCD) are available for polishing milled edges.

vhf offers a wide range of gravers and engravers for different materials. With top angles of 15 to 92 degrees and engraving widths of 0.1 mm to 1.0 mm, you have full flexibility. In case of engravers, your engravings are performed by an additional spiral flute – particularly for materials such as acrylic or stainless steel – burr-free and clean cut. Gravers with a shank diameter from 6 mm on are balanced by default. On top of that, there is a special tool for engraving isolation channels on printed circuit boards.

Our classic gravers for engraving plastics, wood and non-ferrous metals with top angles already from 15° on (ideal for working without workpiece levelling).
Box gravers
A box graver is a special kind of graver with a top angle of 92°. This tool is very well suitable for chamfering or edge bending, e. g. for cabinet makers.
Engraver's milling cutters for acrylic
This engraver's milling cutter is equipped with a flute. So the chips can be removed better and your engravings in acrylic become clean-cut and burr-free.
Engraver's milling cutters for stainless steel
Engraving stainless steel needs an engraver's milling cutter with a special cutting edge to achieve clear results and a long endurance also in this material.
Channel cutters
Graver with a top angle of 180°, for milling die channels in pressed paper sheets or high pressure laminates.
Isolation engraving tools
Our special tool for engraving isolation channels on printed circuit boards and other hard materials. The results become burr-free and clean-cut.

These tools can be used for deburring, countersinking, chamfering and edge-working of non-ferrous metals and plastics. They are available with top angles of 60°, 90° and 120° and a quadrant grinding.

Router bits are mostly used for machining wood. However, due to their carbide cutting edges they are also very well suitable for working on other kinds of materials like plastics.

The router bits are available as different types for chamfering or bevelling, for milling slots, characters and concave or convex radii, and for surface milling. The Orange Tools TM are manufactured by CMT, an experienced specialist for woodworking tools. The paint serves also as non-stick coating to prevent that resins and impurities may accumulate at the cutting edge..

V-slot cutters
Available with 60 or 90 degree top angle and two or three cutting edges; for milling (decoration) slots as well as for chamfering and engraving.
Long hole slot cutters
Straightly slotted tool with negative cutting angle for perfectly even surfaces; For producing tongue and groove or mortice and tenon joints.
Slot cutters
A straightly slotted tool which is radially ground for perfect surfaces; for milling plane surfaces, notches, tongue and groove joints etc.
Radius cutters
Engraving stainless steel needs an engraver's milling cutter with a special cutting edge to achieve clear results and a long endurance also in this material.
Chamfering cutters
Straightly slotted tool with two cutting edges for chamfering accurately. The tool is available with three different chamfering angles.
Cutters with quadrant
This tool consists of a massive steel corpus with an inserted double-toothed carbide plate. The top angle is 90 or 135 degrees.
Character cutters
Special cutter with a top angle of 60 degrees and a top radius; suitable for effectively removing the material around free standing letters.
V-slot cutter for aluminium composites
This tool consists of a massive steel corpus with an inserted double-toothed carbide plate. The top angle is 90 or 135 degrees.

vhf offers for thread sizes from M 1 to M 16 different kinds of thread cutters. There are tools which cut threads in pre-drilled holes as well as combined circular thread cutters with drill, which combine the complete process of thread production into one single step. The material range which can be processed is broadly diversified: The thread whirling cutter for instance enables you to process plastics and non-ferrous metals as well as composite materials and steels.

Thread cutters
This is a special tool for cutting metric internal or external threads in pre-drilled holes (also tapped blind holes) with the milling system.
Thread whirling cutters
These tools are suitable for especially tiny threads from M 1 on. The threads will be machined down to the bottom of the pre-drilled hole and can be very deep.
Circular thread cutters
A patented special tool which offers the possibility to drill the hole and to cut the thread in one working cycle. You save the time of the tool changing process.

Our drills are available with cutting edge diameters from 0.3 to 6.5 mm, each in different models.The smaller ones are optimally suited for drilling of plastics, non-ferrous metals and circuit boards. The bigger drills are also available with various hard coatings and are therefore well suited for materials such as steel, stainless steel, cast iron or titanium.

These carbide drills for printed circuit boards, plastics or non-ferrous metals distinguish themselves by great quality and endurance.
Drills with 6 mm shank
Using these drills you can machine a wide range of materials, for instance non-ferrous metals or curable plastics and thermoplastics.

A drill with a top angle of 130 degrees for machining non-ferrous metals or thermoplastics, also suitable for wood or composites.

PCD single tooth cutters
If the cutting edge is made of diamond instead of carbide, you will achieve a significantly improved surface quality and endurance – without coolant.
PCD double tooth cutters
The second cutting edge again extends the endurance and enables a slightly improved smoothness. This milling cutter is ideal for processing harder materials.
MCD polishing cutters
You can produce polished acrylic letters or logos of any shape directly on your milling system. Separate polishing machines become dispensable.
MCD polishing gravers
This tool with its attached diamond polishes engravings on sophisticated acrylic signboards etc. to a high gloss. It is available with a top angle of 60° and 90°.
